Tamko Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you’re searching for Tamko kitchen remodeling help in Los Angeles, you’re likely standing in a kitchen where something has stopped working the way it should: a cabinet door that no longer closes, laminate that has lifted at the seam, or a countertop edge that has swelled from years of dishwater and citrus. We stock and install Tamko-compatible kitchen components across Los Angeles, with full kitchen remodels typically running $16,520 to $53,100 depending on cabinet run, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout stays put. The part you need is almost always replaceable, but matching it to the right Tamko series and the right finish takes a little care, because Tamko’s product lines changed in ways that make two cabinets that look identical on the outside fit completely differently underneath.
Most owners discover the failure the same way: a drawer sticks in July after years of working fine, a hinge screw has stripped out of the cabinet box, or a corner of the counter has darkened and crumbled where water sat one too many times. None of these mean the whole kitchen is doomed. It means a specific part failed, and the question is whether to match it, replace it with a better-built equivalent, or fold the repair into a broader kitchen update you were already considering.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s kitchen cabinetry and laminate lines span several series across different decades, and the compatibility gotcha is real: Tamko cabinet boxes changed from a 3/4-inch full-overlay face-frame construction to a frameless 5/8-inch panel model in the mid-2010s, which means a hinge from a 2009 Tamko cabinet will not sit flush on a 2018 Tamko cabinet even if the door widths are identical. When you call us, we’ll ask you to check the inside of a drawer box or the underside of a lower cabinet for a printed label, usually white or silver, with a series code like TK-E or Tamko Select. If the label is gone, we measure the hinge cup diameter and the door reveal, because those two numbers tell us more about the series than the color of the finish ever will.
For countertops, Tamko offered both post-formed laminate with a rolled front edge and flat-slab laminate with a square edge, and the two are not interchangeable on the same base cabinet without reworking the substrate. An OEM Tamko replacement piece matches the original color and edge profile exactly, but in many Los Angeles kitchens the smarter long-term choice is a quality aftermarket laminate with a thicker wear layer, because Tamko’s older post-formed tops used a paper-thin decorative layer that fails first at the seam near the sink. We carry both options and will show you the difference in person before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawers that stick in summer and slide fine in winter. This is almost always the drawer box swelling from humidity: Tamko’s older particleboard drawer boxes were not sealed on the bottom edge, so they absorb moisture from the floor and expand. The fix is either a sealed aftermarket drawer box or a cabinet-humidity fix, depending on what’s underneath.
- Hinge screws that keep loosening no matter how many times you tighten them. The face-frame material behind the hinge plate has stripped. Re-tightening is a temporary fix; the real repair is a threaded insert or a switch to a two-screw hinge cup that spreads the load.
- A dark, spongy spot on the countertop near the sink or dishwasher. Water penetrated the laminate edge. Once the particleboard core swells, no amount of caulk will fix it; the section needs to be cut out and replaced, and the seam resealed with a waterproof edge.
- Cabinet doors that no longer sit flush, leaving a wider gap on one side than the other. The door itself has not changed; the cabinet box has shifted, often from a settling floor or a loose wall attachment. We check the box mounting before we touch the hinge, because adjusting the hinge on a shifted box just re-crooks the door.
- A seam in the backsplash or counter that has turned gray or black along the edge. That’s mildew in the joint, which means the original caulk has failed and water has been getting behind the surface for longer than you’d hope. The part that failed is the seal, but what it protected may now need repair too.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a Tamko kitchen component replacement is priced by the part and the labor to fit it correctly, and our written scope spells out both before the crew parks the truck. Here is what you can expect to pay:
- Cabinet door or drawer front replacement, matched to existing finish: $180 to $450 per door, including hinge matching and alignment.
- Hinge and drawer slide replacement on a full kitchen (20-30 openings): $550 to $1,400, depending on whether we’re upgrading to soft-close hardware.
- Post-formed laminate countertop section replacement (up to 8 linear feet): $1,100 to $2,600 including seam treatment and edge sealing.
- Full kitchen remodel with Tamko-compatible cabinetry, countertops, and surfaces: $16,520 to $53,100, with the range driven by layout changes, material upgrades, and whether plumbing or electrical needs to move.
Every one of these numbers is written down before we begin, and the written price stays the price. We do not come back with a change order because the crew “found something.” If we find something during the job, we explain it, we show you, and we ask before we touch it. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise working the way it should. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation for one year, and the materials carry their own manufacturer warranties, which we register for you.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
Some Tamko repairs are genuinely safe to handle yourself: tightening a drawer slide that has simply come loose, replacing a soft-close bracket that snapped, or cleaning and re-caulking a visible seam. If the failure is what you can see and reach, go slowly and you’ll likely be fine. Where DIY goes wrong is when the visible symptom is hiding a structural problem: a hinge that keeps loosening because the cabinet box has water damage, a counter that has swelled because the substrate is holding moisture, or a drawer that sticks because the cabinet frame has shifted and is no longer square. In those cases, fixing the visible part without addressing what’s underneath means paying twice: once for the part you bought, and once for us to undo it and do it right.
Also know this: Tamko cabinetry from certain years used a high-pressure laminate adhesive that, when cut or sanded, releases fine particles that should not be around children or pets. We use sealed cutting tools and HEPA-filtered extraction when working with older Tamko panels. If you have a cabinet that needs cutting, call us at (949) 850-9896 rather than running a saw in the kitchen. We’ll come out, look at what you have, and give you a written price for exactly what it will take.
FAQs

In a dry inland area like the Valley or Pasadena, Tamko cabinets and laminate countertops typically last 15 to 20 years; in coastal neighborhoods like Santa Monica or Playa del Rey, the salt air shortens that to 10 to 15 years. The failure point is usually the hinge and drawer hardware, not the boxes themselves, which means a hardware upgrade can add years to an otherwise sound cabinet run. Call (949) 850-9896 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your cabinets are worth saving.
Sometimes yes: a stripped hinge plate can be fixed with a threaded insert, and a swollen drawer box can be shaved and resealed if it hasn’t cracked. We’ll only recommend repair when the repaired part will last as long as a replacement; otherwise we tell you straight and give you the replacement price.
Most single-part replacements, like a hinge set or a drawer front, are done in one visit of two to four hours. A countertop section replacement takes a half day. A full kitchen remodel runs three to six weeks, with the precise timeline written in your scope before we start.
We stock the most common Tamko-compatible hinge types, drawer slides, soft-close brackets, and edge banding on our trucks, so most repairs are same-trip. For finish-matched doors, drawer fronts, and countertop sections, we order from our local Los Angeles suppliers and the part arrives in three to seven business days. We also handle parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone kitchens, so if your Tamko kitchen shares a remodel with those brands, one crew handles all of it.
