Unilock Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If a Unilock paver on your Los Angeles driveway has cracked, shifted, or settled into a low spot, we can match the unit and get it set right. Typical paver repair work in Los Angeles runs from $295 for a single-unit swap up to $1,200 or more when a section of the base has failed and needs re-compaction. We keep common Unilock dimensions and color blends in our LA inventory, and we can usually identify and source a matching unit within a few days. Most owners notice the problem the same way: a paver rocks underfoot near the garage apron, a low spot holds water after the sprinklers run, or the sand between joints has washed out along the downhill edge of the drive.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To

Most Unilock driveway failures we see in Los Angeles involve the brand’s larger-format or thicker pavers: Hollandstone, Mattoni, Richcliff, and the heavier EnduraColor line. These are the products homeowners choose for driveways because they handle vehicle weight, but they still sit on a prepared base, and that base is usually what fails first. Unilock pavers are manufactured in specific metric and imperial dimensions, and the color is locked into the surface layer during production. That matters when matching a single replacement unit. A paver from a different production run can look close in the catalog and wrong on the driveway because the surface aggregates and pigment batch vary slightly. The reliable way to match a unit is to pull one clean paver from the edge, photograph the back side, and note the dimensions to the millimeter. The OEM unit will have a manufacturer stamp or code on the underside that lets us identify the exact series and run.
For most Unilock repairs, we recommend the OEM unit rather than a look-alike from a different supplier. The shape tolerances on Unilock pavers are tight, and a slightly different edge profile creates a visible seam in the middle of an otherwise clean field. There are quality equivalents for joint sand, edge restraints, and filter fabric, and we use those where they perform as well or better. But the paver itself should be a true Unilock match or the repair looks like a patch.

Signs Your Unilock Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A single paver rocks when stepped on or driven over. The bed underneath has eroded or settled, usually from water finding its way through a joint that lost its sand. The paver breaks contact with the sand layer and starts moving under load.
- Water pools in one area after rain. Los Angeles gets fast, hard rainfall, and a driveway that does not drain will push water through the joints, soften the base, and slowly create a depression. This is the most common starting point for larger failures we repair.
- Sand washes out at the joints, especially near the street edge or a planter. Joint sand locks the pavers together. Once it starts migrating, the units lose lateral support and begin to rotate or drift.
- Edge pavers have pulled away from the curb or the house. A failed or missing edge restraint lets the whole field move outward over time. What starts as a half-inch gap becomes a crack, then a loose section.
- You see a cracked paver near a tree root or along a downslope. Roots and grade movement do not care how thick the paver is. The unit cracks because the support under it moved, not because the pavers below are weak.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Paver driveway repair in Los Angeles is priced as parts plus labor, with labor varying most. Single paver swaps are $295 to $825 when the base is intact and we only lift, reset, and re-sand the area. A section repair where we remove a few dozen pavers, re-grade and re-compact the base, and then reset the field runs $1,200 to $3,500 depending on square footage and access. For a full paver driveway installation, the Los Angeles range is $8,260 to $21,240 based on sidewalk-to-garage scope, demo, base depth, and any drainage corrections. The written price we give you before any work starts includes the pavers, new sand, edge restraints where needed, compaction, and clean-up. If we get the section open and find a problem we did not agree to on paper, we stop and explain it before touching anything else. Graham Stein’s rule applies here: the written scope is the promise, if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet.
DIY or Call Us?
Paver repair is not dangerous the way a high-tension garage spring or a live electrical panel is, but it is unforgiving if you get the base wrong. You can safely inspect your Unilock driveway: look for loose pavers, run a hose and watch where water pools, and check the edge restraints with a firm push. What most Los Angeles homeowners regret is lifting a low section, adding a bag of sand, and walking away. Without compaction and proper bedding, the repair fails again in a few months, and you have spent a Saturday to make the problem less visible but no more stable. If you see standing water or a section that has dropped more than half an inch, call us at (949) 850-9896 before you lift anything. We will walk the driveway with you, show you what is moving, and give you a written price.
FAQs

We tell Los Angeles owners to expect forty years from a properly installed Unilock paver driveway, with joint sand replenishment every three to five years. The pavers themselves fade slowly under our UV, but they are not wearing out; the sand, the base, and the restraints are the consumable layers. Driveways that see rain runoff or sprinkler overspray need more attention than ones that stay dry.
No. Concrete pavers do not repair; they are replaced. The good news is that a single cracked unit is usually a $295 to $825 fix when the failure is isolated and the base is sound. The repair is invisible once we match the production run. Call us at (949) 850-9896 and we will bring color samples to the property.
For a single paver swap, we are usually in and out in under two hours. A section repair with base work, re-compaction, and re-sanding takes a full day. The new sand and pavers settle with a light rolling pass, and the driveway is driveable the next morning.
We stock common Unilock dimensions and blend colors used across Los Angeles driveways, and we order exact-match units from our local distributor for less common series. You do not need to source anything yourself, and we verify the match before we schedule the work. Elmstead Remodeling is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Unilock, so we are free to give you the straight story on whether an OEM or equivalent material is the better call. We also specify parts from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone in our kitchen and bath work, so the same no-guesswork parts discipline follows every trade.
