Cover Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cover fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs between $4,130 and $10,620 for a full fence with Cover fencing components, and we stock the most common Cover-compatible fence parts on our trucks so a replacement section or gate can often be handled the same week you call. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a problem the same way: a gate that suddenly drags, a fence section leaning after a wind event off the Santa Anas, or a post that wiggles when a dog jumps against it. The failure is rarely the whole fence. It is usually one part: a warped rail, a cracked post, a hinge mount that pulled loose from the frame, or a latch that no longer aligns. We start every fence call by looking at which Cover part failed and whether the surrounding sections are still sound, because replacing one post is a very different job than rehanging an entire run.

We are an independent remodeling contractor serving Los Angeles, not affiliated with Cover, but we work with their fence components regularly and know which parts interchange across their product lines. The written price comes before any work starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every fence we install. If a part fails because we installed it incorrectly, we make it right at no charge.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s fence line in the Los Angeles market spans their standard aluminum and vinyl panel systems, both of which use a common post-and-rail architecture but differ in rail depth and bracket style. The aluminum panels use a narrower rail profile with a snap-in bracket, while the vinyl line uses a thicker, hollow rail that slides over a mounting block. This matters when a single section gets damaged: you cannot mix an aluminum rail with a vinyl post without an adapter, and the bracket hole spacing is different enough that drilling new holes is the only workaround, which compromises the powder coat or vinyl skin.

To identify the right part, look for the small stamped code on the inside of the bottom rail or the back of a post cap. Cover stamps most of their Los Angeles-sold fence components with a two-letter series code and a panel height. A fence that says “CV-6” is the 6-foot vinyl series; “CA-5” is the 5-foot aluminum. If the stamp has worn off, measure the rail depth with a tape: aluminum rails measure 1 1/4 inches, vinyl rails measure 2 inches. We also carry a few quality aftermarket brackets and post caps that match Cover’s mounting dimensions and hold up better against Los Angeles UV, but for rails and posts themselves, we recommend staying OEM. Aftermarket post extrusions we have tried over the years vary enough in wall thickness that gate hinges develop play within a season or two.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate dragging or scraping at the latch side. This usually means the hinge post has shifted out of plumb, often because the concrete footing was poured too shallow for Los Angeles’s expansive clay soil, which heaves after winter rain and shrinks in August. The gate itself is often fine; the post base is the problem.
  • Fence panel sagging between posts. On vinyl runs, this points to a cracked internal rail where the sun has broken down the plastic over years of direct exposure. On aluminum runs, it usually means a bracket snapped at the post connection. Either way, the panel needs to come down before it twists the neighboring sections.
  • Post wobble when pushed by hand. A post that moves more than a quarter inch under light pressure has lost its footing. In Los Angeles, we see this most on hillside properties where runoff undercut the concrete, or where the original install used a pre-cast footing block instead of poured concrete.
  • Latch that will not catch or binds mid-throw. The striker plate has drifted because the gate post is leaning, or the internal spring in the latch has corroded. Salt air near the Los Angeles coast accelerates this on aluminum hardware faster than anywhere inland.
  • White chalky residue or hairline cracks on vinyl panels. This is UV and smog degradation, common on fences older than 8 to 10 years in full Los Angeles sun. The panel may still stand, but it is getting brittle and a future impact will shatter it rather than dent it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

For a full Cover fence installation in Los Angeles, plan on $4,130 to $10,620 depending on linear footage, panel height, gate count, and whether the old footings need to be dug out and repoured. A single damaged section with new rails, brackets, and panel runs $590 to $1,180 installed, including haul-away of the broken parts. The range moves based on access: a flat backyard with a wide side gate is the low end; a hillside lot where every post hole hits decomposed granite or old tree roots pushes toward the high end.

Every quote includes the parts, labor, concrete for post footings, hardware, clean-up, and a photo of the finished clean-up before our crew leaves. We use drop cloths along any path where we carry fence sections through the house, shoe covers at the door, and quiet tools during nap hours for families with small children. The written price is fixed before work starts. If we hit a condition we could not see, we stop, explain it, and get your sign-off before any number changes. That is the Cedarwell Care Promise and it applies to every fence we install in Los Angeles.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely check on your own: look at the stamped code on the bottom rail, measure the rail depth, and note which post or panel is failing so you can describe it accurately when you call. You can also tighten a gate latch plate that has backed out, which solves a surprising number of alignment complaints without any parts. What we recommend against is pulling a post or re-hanging a panel on your own. Fence work is not high-voltage, but a vinyl panel under tension can pinch, and a failing post can drop unexpectedly while you are working the footing. Los Angeles soil also has a habit of hiding old irrigation lines and shallow gas lines near property edges; a post hole in the wrong spot becomes a much bigger job than the fence was.

If the panel is cracked, the post is moving, or the gate has started leaning, call us at (949) 850-9896. We will tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a single-section repair or a larger reinstallation, and we can usually get a crew to most Los Angeles neighborhoods within a week.
