Abodu Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you own an Abodu home in Los Angeles and the kitchen is showing its age, the typical installed remodel runs $16,520 – $53,100 depending on layout size, cabinet line, countertop material, and how much plumbing or electrical needs to move. Homes in Eagle Rock, Silver Lake, and the Fairfax district each come with their own quirks, and we’ve worked on enough Abodu units across the city to know where they need extra attention: older plumbing stub-outs, tight upper-cabinet clearances, and melamine cabinet boxes that swell when a dishwasher vent leaks.
Most owners call us because something stopped working the way it should, not because they woke up wanting a new kitchen. A drawer front pulls loose from its rail. A laminate countertop edge delaminates near the sink. The soft-close mechanism on a base cabinet gives out and the door slams every time. The kitchen still functions, technically, but it no longer feels like the home you bought into.
We stock Abodu-compatible cabinet components, replacement hardware, and countertop materials in our Los Angeles shop, and we can usually start a full kitchen remodel within two to three weeks of the estimate.
Which Abodu Models This Applies To

Abodu homes in California generally ship with one of two kitchen configurations: a compact linear layout (galley-style along a single wall) or a slightly larger L-shaped plan with a peninsula. The cabinet boxes are typically frameless European-style construction, which means the hinges mount directly to the box interior rather than to a face frame. That matters a lot if you’re trying to match a single broken hinge or drawer slide from a hardware store, because big-box replacements are almost always built for face-frame cabinets with a different overlay measurement.
We verify the cabinet overlay (usually 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch on Abodu builds) and the hinge cup diameter before ordering anything. If you can open one cabinet door and look for a sticker inside the box or on the hinge arm, that helps, but we also carry a gauge on the truck to measure it ourselves. For counters, most Abodu units in Los Angeles came with a laminate over particleboard substrate, with a few later builds upgraded to solid surface. The plywood substrate under a laminate counter matters because it’s what we anchor to when replacing the top: if the original builder used particleboard and it soaked up water near the sink, we cut that section out and rebuild it before setting the new counter.
As for OEM versus aftermarket: Abodu does not sell replacement kitchen parts to independent contractors, so the cabinet boxes themselves are almost always aftermarket or custom-built. That’s not a compromise if you know what to specify. We order from KraftMaid and Wellborn for replacement cabinetry, and we have installed Cambria and Silestone quartz on Abodu remodels where clients wanted a harder-wearing surface than the original laminate. Elmstead Remodeling is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with Abodu. That independence means we choose parts for fit and durability, not for the convenience of a factory spec sheet.

Signs Your Abodu Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed or drift open on their own. The soft-close damper inside the hinge cup has worn out, or the hinge plate has bent from years of the door being pulled past its stop. On frameless boxes, a single bent hinge plate will throw the whole door out of square, and the gap between doors starts looking like a frown in the middle of the kitchen.
- Drawer slides that catch, grind, or drop on one side. The ball-bearing slides Abodu built with are rated for a certain number of cycles, and in a busy Los Angeles household with kids, that number comes faster than the spec sheet claims. When a slide fails, the drawer box rubs against the cabinet frame and chews up both.
- Laminate countertop edges swelling or separating near the sink or dishwasher. This is the most common Abodu failure we see citywide, from Reseda to Highland Park. The steam release from a dishwasher cycle, combined with splash-back around the faucet, works water into the particleboard core, which expands and never fully dries.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall or sagging under the counter. Original mounting screws in Abodu builds are often too short for the wall assembly, especially where the wall is a steel-framed partition with a drywall set-off. The box itself is fine, but the anchor has lost its bite.
- Hinges and knobs loosening every few weeks despite retightening. The hinge screws on frameless cabinets thread into a 5mm hole in particleboard or MDF, and once that hole strips, tightening the screw becomes a temporary fix. The real fix is an insert adapter or a larger-diameter Euro screw.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

What a Los Angeles Abodu kitchen remodel costs depends on how much of the original structure stays. The broad installed range for this page is $16,520 – $53,100. Here is how the pricing breaks down by scope:
- Small kitchen remodel (compact Abodu galley layout): $10,620 – $23,600
- Cabinet installation (replacing boxes and doors, keeping layout): $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop installation (laminate out, quartz or solid surface in): $2,360 – $7,670
- Backsplash installation (tile, with waterproofing behind): $945 – $2,950
- Kitchen island installation (adding or rebuilding): $3,540 – $11,800
The written price we give you before any work starts includes line items for the materials, the labor, the haul-away of the old cabinets and counters, and the clean-up. It does not quietly grow after the crew arrives. The range moves based on a few things: whether the cabinet boxes need full replacement or just new doors and hardware, whether your plumbing stub-outs need to be repositioned (common in older Abodu builds where the sink drain sits too high for a deeper sink), and whether the electrical panel has room for additional circuits if you’re adding under-cabinet lighting or a dedicated line for an island outlet.
Every Abodu kitchen remodel we complete in Los Angeles carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right. That promise is stamped on your project paperwork, not buried in a warranty booklet.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can check before you call, safely, without touching a tool. Open each cabinet and look for a visible sticker from the hinge or slide manufacturer. Test the soft-close by pressing the door shut and listening for a click; if there’s no resistance in the last half-inch, the damper is dead. Run your hand along the underside of the counter near the sink; if you feel swelling or softness, the substrate has absorbed water.
Beyond that, this job gets heavy and precise quickly. Removing frameless cabinets without damaging the drywall behind them, resetting anchors into steel studs, and rebuilding a wet particleboard counter substrate are not weekend projects. We have also done the job after a well-meaning DIY attempt went sideways, and the cost to fix a stripped hinge hole that was filled with the wrong product then drilled off-center is more than the cost of doing it right the first time.

FAQs

In Los Angeles, we see Abodu kitchen cabinets lasting about 12 to 15 years on average, though hardware like hinges and drawer slides usually fails sooner, around the 8- to 10-year mark, and that’s especially true in homes without air conditioning where the seasonal humidity cycles put more stress on particleboard cores. The boxes can last longer if the kitchen is dry and the doors were never abused, but the hardware lifespan is what drives most replacement decisions. If your doors are still square but your slides are shot, replacing the hardware alone is usually the better spend, and we can scope that out during a free estimate at (949) 850-9896.
Yes, and we do this often. A single stripped hinge mount, a failed soft-close mechanism, or a sagging drawer can usually be repaired without touching the rest of the kitchen, and that work runs in the low hundreds rather than the full remodel range. The exception is water-damaged cabinet boxes or countertops, where the particleboard has swollen and the structural integrity of that section is gone, and those usually need replacement of at least that cabinet run. Call (949) 850-9896 and describe which part is failing; we will tell you which situation you’re in.
A full Abodu kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from demo to final walkthrough, with the shorter end for a compact galley layout and the longer end for an L-shaped plan with an island and plumbing moves. The city permitting process adds time before we start, usually 2 to 4 weeks depending on whether we’re changing the sink location or adding electrical circuits. For hardware-only repairs or single-cabinet replacements, the work is often done in a day or two.
We stock common Abodu-compatible replacement parts in our Los Angeles shop: 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch overlay soft-close hinges, 15-inch to 21-inch full-extension drawer slides, 5mm Euro screws and threaded inserts, and standard laminate edge banding in the finishes that match most Abodu builds. For full cabinet replacement, we order through KraftMaid and Wellborn with a lead time of 2 to 4 weeks, and for countertops we order through Cambria and Silestone directly.
