CGI Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

CGI fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a standard residential perimeter, though most households we serve land in the $6,000 to $8,500 range depending on linear footage, gate count, and post depth requirements. We stock a full truck of CGI-compatible posts, brackets, rails, and gate hardware, so most installations can be scheduled within the same week once we’ve measured the run. Most owners find us after a gate starts dragging or a wind storm bends a rail section out of line, and what they’re really asking is whether the whole fence needs to come down or just the failed part. Usually, it’s just the part.

Before anything gets scheduled, you’ll have a written price on paper. That’s not a negotiation tactic, it’s how every Elmstead Remodeling job starts. Graham Stein, our owner, grew up in Silver Lake and has seen enough Los Angeles fences fail in specific, predictable ways that we can usually tell you what’s wrong from a photo and a measurement before we even drive out.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI fencing in Los Angeles falls into a few distinct product lines, and the part that fails determines which we’re working with. The most common residential lines we service are CGI’s wrought-look aluminum and steel panel systems, plus their sliding and swing gate hardware sets. If you still have the original installation paperwork, look for a series code stamped near the bottom rail of the gate frame or printed on the inside hinge plate. No paperwork? Measure the post: CGI residential posts in LA run 2″ or 2.5″ square in aluminum, and the heavier steel lines use 3″ square posts with welded gate frames. That measurement alone narrows the replacement parts to the right family.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: CGI changed gate roller hardware specs about eight years back, and the newer roller brackets don’t always seat into the older 2″ aluminum tracks without a shim plate. That’s the kind of detail that turns a two-hour gate repair into a full-track replacement if a tech assumes all CGI parts interchange. We keep both generations on the truck. For most post, panel, and rail repairs, OEM CGI parts are worth the few extra dollars because the powder coat depth and alloy match what’s already in your fence. For gate wheels and spring-loaded latches, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a name-brand supplier holds up just as well in LA sun and often costs less to replace the same day.

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or scrapes at the latch edge. The bottom hinge bearing has ovaled out, usually from the gate being opened and closed thousands of times in one direction. The fix is a hinge replacement, not a new gate panel, unless the frame itself is bent.
  • Panel rails no longer sit square in the post brackets. Los Angeles soil shifts seasonally, and even properly set posts can move a half-inch during a wet winter. If multiple panels are pulling out of line, we re-string the bracket alignment rather than pull posts unless the lean is visible at the concrete level.
  • White chalky streaks on dark-coated rails and posts. That’s powder coat oxidation, accelerated by a decade of direct LA sun on the west or south exposure. It starts cosmetic but left unchecked it exposes the aluminum to pitting. Touch-up coating works on panels; once the posts show pinhole corrosion at the base, they’re candidates for replacement.
  • Gate latch doesn’t catch unless you lift the gate up. A sagging gate with a working hinge is usually a stretched or rusted tension rod, especially on the heavier steel gate lines. It’s a low-cost part, but it’s under tension and worth having done by someone who does them regularly.
  • Concrete around a post is crumbled or pulling up at the edge. Water pooled at the post base, froze and thawed through a rare LA cold snap, or just sat there under sprinkler overspray for a decade. We cut the old collar, reset the post, and re-pour around the base so the line stays true.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

For a full CGI fence installation in Los Angeles, plan on $4,130 to $10,620, with most standard city lots falling between $6,000 and $8,500. That covers tear-out of the old fence where needed, new posts set at proper Los Angeles depth codes, all rails and panels, gate hardware, brackets, and a clean haul-away. Line-item pricing means you see exactly what each portion costs, so if a section of posts is still solid, we don’t charge you to replace it.

What moves the number: fence height above six feet, multiple gates, slope runs that require stepped panels, and whether the existing concrete footings need core drilling to accept new posts. We give you the written price before we load a single tool, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every fence we install. If a gate binds or a post drifts after we’ve left, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look at the concrete around each post for cracking, open and close the gate a few times to feel for hinge play, and note which direction the fence faces to see where the sun hits hardest. That information helps us quote accurately. What you shouldn’t do is unbolt any post-mounted bracket or gate hinge while the panel is still connected, or try to re-tension a sagging gate rod on a steel CGI frame. Those carry enough stored tension that a slipped rod pops hard enough to break fingers or crack a panel.

If the problem is one gate hinge or a section of rail, the job usually takes under three hours. If it’s multiple posts, plan for one full day plus concrete cure time. We wear shoe covers at the door when we come inside to review the scope, and the work area is left swept after every visit. Call (949) 850-9896 and we’ll set a time to measure and hand you a written price, no guesswork.
