Why Los Angeles Homeowners Choose CGI Construction
We provide CGI repair in Los Angeles, installing and repairing CGI cabinetry across the city without any manufacturer affiliation. Our crews work with CGI Ready-to-Assemble, Premier, Signature, and Custom Series lines every week, so we know exactly how they behave in Los Angeles homes where dry summers, coastal humidity swings, and seismic movement put real stress on cabinet boxes and joinery. That field experience is what lets us give you an honest answer about whether a cabinet should be repaired or replaced, rather than guessing. Call (949) 850-9896 for a free estimate on CGI cabinet installation or repair anywhere in Los Angeles.
Graham Stein, our owner, has been working on Los Angeles homes for going on two decades, and he learned the fundamentals of framing and finish work at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College on South Grand Avenue. What that means for your CGI cabinets is a crew that reads the existing conditions before touching anything. We are not affiliated with or authorized by CGI, and we say that plainly because homeowners deserve to know who is actually standing behind the work.
Why Trust Elmstead Remodeling for Your CGI Construction?

CGI cabinets are a known quantity to us, not a product we are learning on your kitchen. Our installers understand the differences between the RTA line’s particleboard-core boxes and the Premier Series all-wood construction, and that changes how we handle everything from sink-base installation to hinge mounting. A box made of particleboard cannot hold a screw the way solid wood can, so we use the right fasteners and the right torque. A Premier door with soft-close dampers needs a different adjustment touch than a Signature vanity drawer. These are not theoretical distinctions. They are the difference between a cabinet that stays square and quiet for years and one that starts sagging within months.
We also bring the Cedarwell Care Promise to every CGI job: a written price before any work starts, shoe covers and drop cloths inside the house, quiet tools during family rest hours where possible, a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, and pet-safe product choices where there is a choice. The written scope is the promise – if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet. That matters when you are paying thousands of dollars for cabinetry that your family will open and close every single day.

Common CGI Construction Problems We Fix in Los Angeles
Here is what we actually see in the field, and why these failures happen. If any of this sounds familiar, we can assess the damage and tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing.
- Swollen and delaminating sink base boxes. CGI RTA and some Premier Series boxes use particleboard cores that absorb water like a sponge once a slow leak gets past the sink seal or dishwasher connection. In Los Angeles kitchens where a small drip can go unnoticed for months because the climate is so dry, the particleboard swells, splits, and loses structural integrity around the sink base. The cabinet looks fine from the outside until the door stops aligning or the floor of the cabinet starts crumbling. This is the most common repair we see, and it usually means replacing the box rather than patching it.
- Thermofoil door skins peeling at the edges. CGI’s thermofoil doors look clean and cost less, but in Los Angeles kitchens without adequate ventilation the heat and humidity from cooking eventually causes the vinyl skin to separate from the MDF core, starting at the bottom corners and along the hinge side. Once peeling starts it does not stop. We can replace individual doors, but we always tell homeowners that if more than half the doors on a run are peeling, replacing the whole front set is usually the better long-term value.
- Loose hinges and drawer glides in RTA lines. The particleboard used in CGI Ready-to-Assemble boxes does not hold screws under repeated daily use the way plywood or solid wood does. A family of four opens and closes a drawer hundreds of times a week, and over two or three years those screws back out and widen the holes. We repair this by filling and redrilling with proper dowels or installing threaded inserts, and when the drawer box itself is intact that fix holds up well.
- Soft-close damper failures in Premier doors. The soft-close mechanism in some CGI Premier Series doors uses small plastic or nylon dampers that degrade with heat and repeated impact. When the damper fails the door slams, and over time the slamming cracks the face frame or shakes the hinge screws loose. Replacing a failed damper is a quick job, but if the door has already cracked the frame around the hinge plate, you are looking at a door or frame section replacement.
- Drawer box joints separating in RTA units. RTA cabinets depend on the original assembly being tight and square. When they are not, or when the cam locks and dowels were overtightened or undertightened during original assembly, the joints start to open under everyday loading. We see this most often in lower drawers holding pots and pans. The fix can be as simple as disassembling, regluing, and reclamping, or as involved as replacing the drawer box entirely.
CGI Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We use genuine CGI hinges, drawer glides, and touch-up materials whenever they are available, because the hole patterns and mounting geometry match what is already in your cabinets. When a CGI line has been discontinued, we match quality aftermarket hardware from Blum or Hettich that fits the existing drill patterns without requiring new holes. We do not use cheap off-brand hinges, because a hinge that does not sit flush in the original cup hole will ruin the door alignment and look visibly wrong.
Our repair-versus-replace rule is simple. If the cabinet boxes are solid and only the doors, hinges, or drawer glides have failed, we repair. If the boxes are swollen, delaminated, or structurally compromised beyond the sink base, replacement is the more reliable call. A repaired box that is already failing will just fail again, and you will pay twice. We would rather tell you that on the first visit. Call (949) 850-9896 and we will give you an honest read on your CGI cabinets, along with a written price for the path we recommend.
Our CGI Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
On-site diagnosis. We inspect every cabinet box, face frame, hinge, and glide. We check for water damage around the sink base and dishwasher, press on the bottom panels, and open and close every door and drawer. We want to know what has failed and what is about to, before we quote one number.
- 2
Written scope and price. We hand you a written price for the exact work we are recommending, whether that is replacing a single vanity, refacing a run of upper cabinets, or a full kitchen remodel. The written scope is the promise; nothing happens until you have read it and agreed to it.
- 3
Repair or installation. Our crew protects your floors with drop cloths, uses shoe covers at the door, and works with quiet tools during nap and school hours where possible. We use genuine CGI parts or properly matched aftermarket hardware, and we install to manufacturer specifications so the cabinet geometry stays true.
- 4
Testing and clean-up. Every door and drawer gets opened, closed, and adjusted until it moves the way it should. We photograph the clean-up before the crew leaves, so you can see the house was left right. That photo is part of every job, not an add-on.
- 5
Warranty follow-through. Every CGI installation and repair we complete is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it is not done right, we make it right. If a hinge loosens or a drawer starts catching within the year, you call us and we come back.

AfterCGI Products We Service & Install in Los Angeles
We install and repair the full CGI cabinet range: Ready-to-Assemble Shaker-style kitchen cabinets, Premier Series all-wood cabinets, Signature Series bath vanities, and Custom Series frameless cabinetry, as part of our CGI service in Glendale and surrounding areas. We keep common CGI touch-up kits, hinge sets, and drawer glides on hand in our Los Angeles service vehicles so small repairs do not have to wait on a parts order. When a full cabinet replacement or countertop installation is on the table, we pair the CGI boxes with quartz or other stone products from Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone, and fixtures from Kohler, Moen, and Grohe, so the finished kitchen or bath carries manufacturer warranties you can verify independently.
We Also Service These Brands
CGI is one of several cabinet and surface lines we work with across Los Angeles. We also install and service cabinetry from KraftMaid and Wellborn, countertops from Cambria and Silestone, and fixtures from Kohler. That broad field experience means we can give you an honest comparison when you are choosing between brands, rather than a sales pitch for whichever one we happen to carry.
FAQs – CGI Construction Service in Los Angeles

In most cases yes, we can order replacement doors in the same CGI finish and door style if the line is still in production. Color match on older or sun-faded finishes can be close but not always exact, especially on thermofoil doors that have yellowed from heat exposure. We will show you a sample against your existing doors before you commit. Call (949) 850-9896 to have us assess your specific CGI finish.
CGI’s solid wood Premier Series boxes hold up reasonably well in un-air-conditioned Los Angeles homes, but thermofoil doors and particleboard-core boxes are more vulnerable. Thermofoil skins separate in sustained heat and humidity, and particleboard swells if any moisture gets in. If your home lacks air conditioning, we will tell you honestly which CGI lines are a better match for your conditions before you spend the money.
Swollen sink base boxes from slow leaks are by far the most common CGI service in Long Beach and Los Angeles we perform. The particleboard core absorbs water over months, splits, and loses structural strength. By the time the homeowner notices the door misalignment or the crumbling cabinet floor, the box usually needs replacement. If you suspect a slow leak under your sink, call (949) 850-9896 and we will check it before the damage spreads.
Yes, as long as the base cabinet boxes are structurally sound and properly leveled. Quartz is heavy, and a particleboard box that has swelled or weakened near the sink cannot carry that weight reliably. We inspect the boxes first, reinforce where needed, and then install the countertop from Cambria, Silestone, or Caesarstone. The countertop installation ranges from $2,360 to $7,670 in Los Angeles, depending on square footage and edge profile.
Yes. Every CGI installation and repair we complete is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work is not done right, we make it right at no additional cost. This is a written commitment we make before the project starts, not a verbal promise made after the fact.
