Cover Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Cover bathroom remodeling project in Los Angeles typically runs between $10,620 and $33,040, depending on the size of the bath, the fixtures you choose, and what’s hiding behind the walls once we open them up. We stock and install Cover-compatible components across most series, and we can usually get your remodel started within two to three weeks of the written estimate. The way most Los Angeles homeowners discover their bathroom needs this level of work is gradual: grout that keeps cracking, a vanity that’s started to swell at the base, or a shower pan that’s been weeping into the subfloor for longer than anyone wants to admit.

What separates a Cover bathroom remodel from a patch job is the difference between replacing what’s visible and rebuilding what’s underneath. Graham Stein has been working on homes across Los Angeles for going on two decades, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every client at the first walkthrough: the written scope is the promise. If it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover bathroom remodeling spans a few distinct product lines, and the compatibility question matters before anyone swings a hammer. The most common installations we handle in Los Angeles involve the Cover Classic series (the original vanity-and-top combinations with standard 30-, 36-, and 48-inch widths) and the Cover Pro series, which uses a different mounting rail system and deeper cabinet boxes. The Pro series also moved to soft-close hinges from the factory, so if you have a Classic that’s been retrofitted with soft-close hardware, you’re already working with a hybrid setup.

Before we order anything, we confirm the model label inside the cabinet door or on the underside of the vanity top. That label tells us the series, the production year, and sometimes the specific finish code. For Los Angeles homes built between roughly 1998 and 2015, the Original Cover line is what we see most often, and its cabinet dimensions run about half an inch shallower than the current standard. That half inch matters when you’re trying to keep the same footprint and not lose aisle clearance. We also stock and install components from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for clients who want to mix Cover cabinetry with alternate countertop or fixture partners – no compatibility issues there as long as the cabinet boxes are sound. Elmstead Remodeling is an independent service provider; we’re not affiliated with Cover, but we work with their products every week and know which parts cross over and which ones don’t.

Signs Your Cover Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Base cabinet swelling or discoloration at the floor line. This is almost always water migration from the shower or the toilet flange. Cover Classic boxes used a particleboard toe kick that wicks moisture fast, and by the time you see the swelling, the bottom rail is usually compromised too.
  • Vanity doors that won’t align no matter how many times you adjust the hinge screws. The cabinet face frame has shifted because the substrate behind it has softened. Tightening hinges on a softening box just pulls the screw holes wider.
  • Grout lines that crack in the same spot every six months. That’s substrate movement, not bad grout. In Los Angeles, our dry summers and occasional heavy rain cycles cause enough expansion and contraction that a rigid grout joint over a moving surface will keep failing until the underlayment is corrected.
  • Persistent musty smell that cleaning doesn’t remove. Water has gotten behind the shower surround or under the pan. Once mold establishes in the wall cavity or subfloor, no surface treatment will reach it. We’ve opened walls in Los Angeles bathrooms where the studs were fine but the drywall behind the tile was wet to the touch for years.
  • Shower pan flexing or squeaking when you step in. A properly set pan should feel like concrete underfoot. Movement means the mortar bed has broken down or the pan wasn’t set correctly in the first place. Either way, the waterproofing layer is now working overtime and eventually it won’t work at all.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A complete Cover bathroom remodel in Los Angeles lands in the $10,620 to $33,040 range, and the spread comes down to a few specific things. A 5×8 hall bath with a standard tub, Cover Classic vanity, and mid-range fixtures from Kohler or Moen will sit closer to the bottom of that range. A primary bath with a walk-in shower, heated floor, custom vanity layout, and higher-end Cambria or Silestone countertop will run higher. The biggest cost variables are waterproofing scope (a full Schluter system costs more than a traditional pan liner but lasts decades longer), whether we’re moving plumbing, and whether the subfloor needs repair once we demo.

Every estimate we write for a Los Angeles bathroom remodel includes a line-by-line breakdown: demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile setting, fixture installation, and clean-up. You’ll see the brand names for fixtures and materials before we order anything. The written price you receive before work starts is the price you pay – we don’t issue change orders without sitting down and explaining why first. And every completed project carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can reasonably handle yourself: measuring your bathroom, picking finishes, clearing out personal items before the crew arrives. But a full Cover bathroom remodel involves plumbing, electrical that’s often not up to current Los Angeles code, and waterproofing details that will fail silently for years if they’re wrong. We’ve been called into bathrooms where a well-meaning homeowner replaced a vanity only to find the shutoff valves were older than the house and the supply lines cracked at the fitting. Water damage from a DIY bathroom project in Los Angeles routinely costs more than the original remodel would have.

If you want to know whether your Cover bathroom needs a full remodel or a targeted repair, call (949) 850-9896 and ask for a site visit. We’ll walk the space, check the water damage indicators, and give you a straight answer. The estimate is free, and it comes in writing.
