Kohler Construction in San Diego, CA | Elmstead Remodeling

We’re an independent remodeling crew that offers our Bathroom Remodeling in San Diego and installs and services Kohler fixtures in San Diego homes, from Cast Iron kitchen sinks to LuxStone shower systems. We are not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized by Kohler. The thing that makes our Kohler work different here is that we build and install to San Diego’s two competing rulebooks: coastal seismic and corrosion requirements, and inland fire-hardening codes. Why San Diego Residents Choose Us for Kohler Service

A freestanding soaking tub in a remodeled primary bathroom

We have worked with Kohler fixtures in San Diego houses long enough to know which model lines hold up, which ones fail in specific neighborhoods, and when a repair is worth doing versus when replacement is the honest answer. We stock OEM Kohler cartridges, valves, and trim for the fixtures San Diego homes actually have, so we are not waiting on a parts shipment every time a Purist faucet starts dripping in Mission Hills or a Cimarron toilet runs in Kearny Mesa.

Graham Stein, our owner and a General Contractor in San Diego, has been working on homes for going on two decades. He learned finish work and project sequencing at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where reading the plans came before picking up a tool. What he cares about on every Kohler job is the part that does not show up in a photo: the valve access panel that is easy to reach, the tub deck that sheds water instead of pooling it, the cabinet doors that close the same way five years later.

We show up with shoe covers on and drop cloths down. We name the fixture, the finish, and the part number on the written quote, before any work starts. And we are one phone call away at (949) 850-9896, answered by a person, any hour.

Common Kohler Construction Problems We Solve in San Diego

  • Salt-air pitting on Artifacts and Purist faucet finishes west of I-5. The marine layer carries enough salt to eat through standard chrome and polished nickel over five to seven years in OB or La Jolla. We replace with PVD or stainless hardware, then document the swap in the written quote so you know exactly what you’re getting and why.
  • Hard water clogging aerators and cartridge valves inland. Tierrasanta and Scripps Ranch have some of the hardest municipal water in the county. When a widespread kitchen faucet loses flow or drips through even after cleaning, the cartridge is usually loaded with scale and needs an OEM Kohler replacement, not another soak in vinegar.
  • Cast iron sinks and tubs cracking in pier-and-post Craftsman homes. North Park and South Park have 1910s to 1930s bungalows sitting on pier foundations. When the piers settle even a quarter inch, a heavy Kohler cast iron sink or tub shifts against the rigid waste line and cracks at the drain or overflow. That repair also requires cripple-wall bracing before any inspector will sign off.
  • Old Kohler shower valves failing in post-fire rebuild zones. Scripps Ranch and Rancho Bernardo homes rebuilt after the 2003 Cedar Fire and 2007 Witch Creek Fire often still carry the original shower valves from that era. The pressure-balancing spools are now seizing or leaking, and replacement must meet current WUI-compliant, low-lead standards to pass inspection.
  • Slab-settled cast iron drain lines under original Navy-housing slabs. A lot of Serra Mesa and Linda Vista tract homes from the 1940s and 1950s still sit on original slabs without modern anchor bolts. When the slab settles, rigid cast iron drain lines bend, crack, or shift, which can throw off everything from a Kohler Underscore tub to a Cimarron toilet flange.

Kohler Service in San Diego: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

One thing that separates San Diego from every neighboring city is the Rose Canyon Fault. It runs directly beneath UCSD, through Mission Valley, and out to Mission Bay. That means any Kohler cast iron tub or heavy sink replacement in those neighborhoods must include seismic-rated strapping and flexible waste connections. Out-of-area crews skip that step all the time, and the job fails inspection after what was supposed to be a modest remodel. It’s one example of what we mean when we say Kohler in Chula Vista and other local areas is not the same as Kohler work elsewhere. The city’s dual regulatory split compounds it: coastal projects west of the Coastal Zone boundary can sit in California Coastal Commission review for 6 to 18 months, while inland hillside additions in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone can trigger full current-code WUI compliance on the whole structure, not just the new square footage. If you are adding onto a Kohler bathroom in Scripps Ranch, that valve upgrade may stop being optional the day the permit scope changes.

Kohler Models & Products We Service in San Diego

We work across the Kohler lines that show up in San Diego homes: Cast Iron kitchen sinks like the Whitehaven, Riverby, and Cape Dory; Underscore and Archer bathtubs and shower bases; NUMI and Cimarron toilets; and Artifacts and Purist kitchen and bath faucets. When we can get OEM Kohler cartridges, valves, and trim, we use them. For discontinued models or budget-sensitive repairs, we use quality aftermarket equivalents and say so on the quote. And when a cast iron sink or tub has a structural crack in a Mission Hills bungalow, our recommendation is usually replacement, because patching cast iron in San Diego’s seismic and salt-air conditions is a short-term fix at best. Kohler Service Pricing in San Diego

A walk-in shower with large-format tile and a built-in niche

We give each family a written price before any work starts, and we do not change the number after the crew arrives. The written scope is the promise – if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet. Here is what our Kohler construction and installation work typically runs in San Diego:

Project Type Price Range
Bathroom Remodel $10,620 – $33,040
Walk-In Shower Installation $5,310 – $14,160
Tub-to-Shower Conversion $4,130 – $11,800
Kitchen Remodel $16,520 – $53,100
Countertop Installation $2,360 – $7,670

What drives the cost in San Diego specifically is whether your project touches the coastal zone, whether it sits in a fire hazard zone, and whether the Rose Canyon Fault proximity means extra strapping and bracing. The free estimate spells all of that out in writing. Call (949) 850-9896 and we will come look, measure, and hand you a real number.
