Mighty Buildings Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Mighty Buildings driveway and paver components can be matched, priced, and installed by our team in Los Angeles, with typical installed paver driveway work running $8,260 – $21,240 depending on the size of the run and the condition of the base underneath. Most owners realize something has shifted when a paver starts rocking underfoot after rain, or when a low spot collects water that wasn’t there last winter. We stock common paver profiles and can source Mighty Buildings-compatible dimensions on short notice, and the written price is in your hand before we start.

Graham Stein has watched Los Angeles driveways heave and settle for going on two decades now, and the failure pattern is almost always the same: the base gives up before the paver does, and the visible crack or dip is just the delayed report. This page covers what actually fails, what it costs to fix here, and when it’s a call worth making.

Which Mighty Buildings Models This Applies To

A single-story rear room addition with tall windows and a new patio

Mighty Buildings driveway and paver systems are engineered around a few specific profiles, and the compatibility gotcha is this: Los Angeles suppliers often substitute a generic 60mm paver for Mighty Buildings’ 80mm and 100mm driveable profiles, and they’ll tell you it’s the same thing. It isn’t. The thicker paver carries vehicle load differently, and mixing a thin paver into an existing 80mm field leaves you with a low edge that catches water and shifts under tire pressure.

Before swapping anything, check the underside of a lifted paver for a mold stamp or a raised manufacturer mark. Mighty Buildings pavers typically run in 12″×12″ and 16″×16″ formats, with some 24″×24″ large-format slabs in later series. If the underside is blank, measure the actual thickness with a tape, not the edge that’s been rounded by traffic. We match by thickness first, then by surface profile, because color can be adjusted with sealing, but structural depth can’t be fudged. For OEM replacements, expect a longer lead time and a higher per-unit cost. For quality aftermarket equivalents, we carry profiles in our Los Angeles work trucks that meet or exceed the same load ratings, and we’ll show you the spec sheet before we agree to anything.

Elmstead Remodeling is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Mighty Buildings, and we don’t pretend to be. What that means for you is we can be honest about when a matching aftermarket paver is the better spend and when OEM is the only choice worth making.

Signs Your Mighty Buildings Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Rocking or wobbling underfoot. A paver that tips when you step on it has lost the sand or base support beneath it. The cause is usually water working its way under the edge, then washing the bedding away a teaspoon at a time.
  • Water pooling in low spots that used to drain. Los Angeles rain comes hard when it comes, and a paver driveway that held water fine last year and puddles now has a base that’s compressing unevenly. This is the earliest and most honest signal you’ll get.
  • Growing gaps between pavers, especially near the driveway edge. Edge restraint failure is the most common Mighty Buildings paver issue we see in Los Angeles. Without a solid edge, the whole field drifts a quarter-inch a year until the pattern visibly spreads.
  • Sunken tracks where the car wheels sit. This is base compaction failure, full stop. The pavers themselves are fine, but the stone and sand under them weren’t compacted in lifts, and now they’re settling into two parallel ruts that will only deepen.
  • Surface chipping or spalling at the paver edges. Unlike concrete slabs, pavers rarely crack through the middle. The edges chip first, which usually means they were installed too tight and the thermal expansion from southern California heat has nowhere to go but up and out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A second-story addition that matches the existing roofline

Here’s what paver driveway work runs in Los Angeles, based on the scope of the repair or replacement:

  • Paver driveway installation (full new build): $8,260 – $21,240
  • Driveway replacement (tear-out and rebuild): $5,900 – $16,520
  • Paver patio installation (adjacent to driveway or standalone): $4,130 – $12,980
  • Concrete driveway installation (if you’re switching systems): $5,310 – $14,160
  • Driveway sealing (paver or concrete protection): $295 – $825

The spread comes down to square footage, access for equipment, and whether the existing base is salvageable or needs full excavation. On a repair, you’re paying for the right matching paver, the labor to lift and reset the affected area, new bedding sand, and recompaction of the base where needed. On a replacement, that becomes a full tear-out, new base material compacted in lifts, new pavers, and edge restraint. Every quote includes the line items, so you can see exactly where the money goes before we start. If the driveway isn’t done right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the fix.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: lift a loose paver and photograph the underside, measure the thickness, and note where water pools after rain. That information helps us give you an exact quote faster. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a section of driveway and patch it with bagged sand from the hardware store. The patch will hold for a season and fail again, usually worse, because the underlying base issue was never addressed. We’ve seen homeowners spend a full weekend on a repair that lasted four months.

Paver work isn’t dangerous the way garage springs or electrical panels are, but it is heavy, repetitive, and unforgiving on your back. If you have toddlers helping, it’s also a tempting pile of heavy things to climb on. Call (949) 850-9896 and let us send someone who does this every week. The quote is free, and the written price includes the whole job, not just the parts.
