Moen Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Moen kitchen faucet, sink, or fixture that’s part of a larger kitchen remodel, a full kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on cabinet layout, countertop material, and how much plumbing reconfiguration the Moen fixture needs. Most owners discover they need this level of work when a faucet cartridge wears out or a sink rim leaks, and they realize the surrounding countertop or cabinet is too far gone for a simple swap. We stock Moen-compatible parts on our trucks for common cartridge, spray-head, and mounting-hardware replacements, and we can usually match your existing Moen model during the initial estimate visit.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s kitchen lines split across a few families, and the part compatibility matters more than most homeowners expect. The Adler, Align, and Arbor lines share a common 1255 Duralast cartridge, while the MotionSense touchless models use that same cartridge plus a separate sensor module that lives under the sink. The older Chateau and Legend lines from the 1990s and early 2000s use a smaller brass-cartridge stem that Moen no longer makes, which means the only real fix is a faucet replacement rather than a cartridge swap.
If you’re not sure which Moen model you have, look at the base of the spout where it meets the counter. Moen stamps the model number there on most post-2005 fixtures, usually starting with a four or five digit sequence like 7294 or 87950. If that stamp is worn away, measure the cartridge housing diameter: the modern 1255 cartridge is 1-1/8 inches across at the widest point, while the older Chateau stems are noticeably narrower. As an independent remodeler, we’re not affiliated with Moen, but we’ve installed and serviced enough of their lines to tell the difference at a glance, and for the older fixtures we’ll say plainly when a replacement faucet is the smarter spend than chasing discontinued parts.
For any kitchen remodel that touches Moen fixtures, the OEM versus aftermarket decision comes down to warranty behavior. Moen’s own cartridges carry a lifetime replacement from Moen itself, which survives the remodel and travels with the home. Quality aftermarket cartridges from Danco or Krowne work fine and can save $15 to $25 per part, but they void that Moen warranty trail if the fixture fails later. For a family that just spent $30,000 on a kitchen, paying for the OEM part is usually the right call.

Signs Your Moen Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Handle gets stiff or sticks after a few months of normal use. This is usually mineral buildup around the cartridge seal, common in Los Angeles where water hardness varies block to block. In Eagle Rock and Silver Lake we see faster buildup than in West LA, and the fix is often a cartridge replacement rather than a whole fixture.
- Leak at the base of the spout when the faucet runs. The O-ring under the spout collar wears flat over time, and on Moen pull-down models this is the single most common failure we see. A $4 ring and fifteen minutes of labor solves it, but only if the surrounding countertop wasn’t already water-damaged from months of slow seep.
- Spray head droops or won’t retract fully into the neck. The counterweight under the sink has slipped or the hose has twisted inside the cabinet. It’s rarely the spray head itself. On older installs, the hose guide wears into the shank and the hose catches, which is a sign the whole faucet is near end of life.
- Low water pressure only at the kitchen faucet, everywhere else fine. The aerator screen or the cartridge inlet screen is clogged with sediment, and in some Los Angeles neighborhoods with older galvanized supply lines, that sediment returns within a year. We check the shutoff valves at the same time, because a corroded angle stop often mimics a faucet problem.
- Moisture or dark staining under the sink cabinet floor. This is the one that turns a $30 part into a $8,000 cabinet replacement. If the leak has been slow and unnoticed, the cabinet base is particleboard and it will swell and crumble. In Los Angeles homes built before 1990, that base is often glued to the subfloor, and removing it cleanly takes patient chisel work, not a pry bar.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

When the Moen fixture issue is folded into a larger kitchen remodel in Los Angeles, the full remodel range of $16,520 to $53,100 already covers the faucet, sink, plumbing rough-in, and trim-out. But if you’re calling us because the Moen faucet failed on its own and you want it replaced without a full remodel, the faucet swap itself typically runs $300 to $600 with parts and labor, assuming the angle stops shut off cleanly and the cabinet hasn’t sustained heavy water damage.
What moves the number within that range: whether the sink needs to come out to access the faucet, whether the existing mounting holes match the new Moen spec, whether the angle stops and supply lines are reusable, and whether the countertop opening needs widening for a different spray-hose configuration. We give the written price before any work starts, and that price includes the Moen OEM parts or the aftermarket parts you’ve chosen, the labor to swap and test, and cleanup. If we find hidden damage after we open up the area, we stop and show you before anything changes. The written scope is the promise – if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet.
DIY or Call Us?
For a Moen cartridge replacement on a modern single-handle model, a careful homeowner with a hex wrench and a strap wrench can do it in about forty-five minutes, and Moen’s own video library walks through it step by step. The job involves shutting off the water, removing the handle, and popping the retaining clip, and the risk is mostly limited to dropping a small part down the drain so a towel over the sink is the smart play.
Where DIY goes wrong for Moen fixtures is anything involving the spray hose, the mounting nut under the counter, or an angle stop that hasn’t been turned in a decade. Force a corroded LA angle stop open or closed and the stem can snap off behind the wall, which turns a faucet job into an emergency shutoff at the main. If your Moen problem lives under the counter or behind the cabinet, call us at (949) 850-9896 before you touch it. We’ll look at it the same way we’d look at a problem in our own kitchen, and we’ll tell you if it’s a ten-minute fix you can do yourself or a job better left to a crew with the right tools.
FAQs

A Moen kitchen faucet in Los Angeles typically lasts 12 to 15 years before cartridge or spray-hose wear makes replacement worth considering, though hard-water neighborhoods can shorten that to 8 to 10 years without regular cartridge cleaning. The cartridge itself is a wear item and Moen replaces it free under their lifetime warranty, so the faucet body is usually the thing that actually lasts.
Sometimes a stiff Moen cartridge can be freed by soaking it in white vinegar to dissolve mineral scale, which buys a few more months, but it’s not a lasting repair because the internal seals have already worn. We replace the cartridge when a customer wants the faucet to feel new again, and the OEM part costs about $25 and takes under an hour to swap.
Most Moen cartridge or faucet replacements in a Los Angeles kitchen take 1 to 2 hours from shutoff to cleanup, including testing for leaks and disposing of the old part. If the angle stops under the sink need to be replaced at the same time, which is common in older LA homes, add another hour and we’ll tell you that before we start.
We stock common Moen 1255 Duralast cartridges, O-ring kits, spray-head assemblies, and mounting hardware on our trucks, so in most cases we can replace the part the same day we diagnose it. For less common Moen finishes or MotionSense sensor modules, we’ll order the OEM part and schedule the return visit once it arrives.
If your Moen faucet has given up or you’re planning a kitchen remodel that includes Moen fixtures, call (949) 850-9896 for a free estimate. We’ll give you a written price before anything gets touched, and we’ll leave the kitchen cleaner than we found it.
