Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have a Mr-Glass driveway or paver surface that’s cracked, shifting, or broken, we stock compatible replacement pavers and can install them across Los Angeles, typically in one to two visits. Installed replacement for a Mr-Glass paver driveway or patio section in Los Angeles generally runs $8260 – $21240 for a full driveway, while smaller paver patio sections fall between $4130 and $12980. Most owners discover a failed paver the same way: a corner chips after a delivery truck clips the edge, a section sinks after winter rains soften the soil beneath, or a crack spreads across three pavers that once sat flush. Graham Stein has been working on Los Angeles homes for going on two decades, and what we see most often is not a product failure but a base failure under the product.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Mr-Glass pavers are manufactured in a few distinct thicknesses and face patterns, and the compatibility question matters more than most homeowners expect. The most common lines we encounter in Los Angeles driveways are the 60mm and 80mm interlocking pavers, typically in a Holland stone or running bond pattern. A 60mm paver belongs on a patio or walkway; an 80mm paver is rated for driveway traffic. If you install a 60mm where an 80mm was pulled, the first SUV that rolls over it will crack it. That is the single most common mismatch we fix.

To identify what you have, flip over a broken paver and look for the Mr-Glass stamp, which includes the thickness marking. If the stamp has worn smooth from years of weather, measure the paver edge with a tape measure: 60mm is just under 2-3/8 inches, 80mm is just over 3-1/8 inches. For aftermarket equivalents, we recommend matching the original thickness and face texture, not just the color. A pavers that matches in color but not in thickness will sit proud or recessed against its neighbors, and the lip becomes a trip hazard in a driveway where kids ride bikes and scooters.

Elmstead Remodeling is an independent Los Angeles service provider and is not affiliated with Mr-Glass. We also work with named-brand materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on remodeling projects, so we are comfortable telling you when an OEM paver is the right call and when a quality aftermarket equivalent will serve you just as well for less.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • One paver sits higher than the ones around it. This is almost always a base issue, not a paver issue. Water got under the sand bed, softened a low spot, and the paver above dropped or heaved. The paver itself is usually fine; the base needs recompacting.
  • A crack runs through multiple pavers in a straight line. Straight-line cracking means the base beneath has a seam or a weak spot, often where a trench was dug for irrigation or conduit and never properly compacted. That line will keep telegraphing through replacement pavers until the base is fixed.
  • The face of a paver is flaking or spalling in patches. We see this most often in Los Angeles driveways that get heavy afternoon sun plus occasional standing water. The surface heats and cools unevenly, and over years the top layer starts to let go. Sealing slows this but cannot reverse it.
  • Joint sand keeps washing out after rain. If you sweep sand back into the joints and it disappears after the next storm, the edge restraint is failing or the slope is sending water across the surface too aggressively. Joint sand without edge restraint will keep migrating.
  • A paver corner has snapped off near the driveway edge or a transition. The most common break point, and the easiest to fix. The paver at the edge takes tire pressure at an angle, and if the edge restraint has shifted even slightly, the corner is unsupported and snaps clean off.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

In Los Angeles, a full Mr-Glass paver driveway replacement runs $8260 – $21240 depending on square footage, paver thickness, access to the site, and whether the base needs rebuilding or just recompacting. A paver patio section replacement runs $4130 – $12980. If the base is sound, the job is mostly lifting the old pavers, regrading the sand bed, relaying, and sweeping in fresh joint sand. If the base has failed, we dig it out, recompact it, and lay a fresh bed before replacing any pavers.

Every job follows the same written-price promise: you get a written scope and a fixed price before any work starts, and that price does not change unless we both agree to change the scope, in writing. The written scope is the promise, as Graham Stein puts it, if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single broken paver in the middle of a patio is a job a careful homeowner can do on a Saturday morning if they are patient and have the right thickness paver in hand. Replacing multiple pavers, working near the driveway edge, or dealing with a base that has shifted is work we would recommend calling us on. The dangerous version of DIY is when a homeowner decides to rebuild a sinking paver section without understanding what is underneath. A driveway that sinks again after the repair is a soil or drainage problem, not a paver problem, and fixing that wrong means digging the whole thing up twice.

If you are not sure whether your base is the issue or the pavers are the issue, call us at (949) 850-9896. We will look at the photos, tell you what we think, and give you a written price before we touch anything.
