Owens Corning Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you’re searching for Owens Corning roofing help in Los Angeles, you likely have a specific problem: a leak after the last rain, missing shingles from a Santa Ana wind event, or failing flashing around a vent pipe. We install and repair Owens Corning roofing systems across Los Angeles, and the work typically falls between $470 and $2,125 for repairs or $9,440 and $23,600 for a full replacement, depending on your roof’s size and pitch. What brings most Los Angeles homeowners to this page is water where it shouldn’t be, often discovered as a small ceiling stain in the bedroom that gets bigger the next time it rains. That’s the moment to call, not next month.

We’re an independent remodeling and roofing contractor based in Los Angeles, not a division of Owens Corning. But our crews work with Owens Corning materials throughout Los Angeles County, from Echo Park to the Valley and down into Long Beach, because the brand has held up well against our specific climate: weeks of dry heat, sudden downpours, and salt air near the coast.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning shingles are sold in several distinct lines, and the part you need depends on which line was installed. The most common lines we see on Los Angeles roofs are the Duration series (which includes Duration, Duration Premium, and Duration FLEX with its SBS-modified asphalt for impact resistance) and the Oakridge series, which is the older workhorse found on many homes built in the 1990s and 2000s. There’s also the Supreme line, a three-tab shingle that’s less common now but still present on smaller starter homes and attached garages in neighborhoods like West Adams or Highland Park.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we encounter constantly: you cannot mix Duration shingles with Oakridge shingles on the same slope and expect a clean look. The profile heights differ, the exposure dimensions differ, and the color slate names don’t match across the lines, even when they sound similar. “Aged Copper” in Duration is not the same physical color as “Aged Copper” in Oakridge. If you need a patch job, we match to the exact line. The original install documentation usually lists the line name, but if you don’t have it, a clear photo of the shingle edge profile to our team lets us identify it before we come out. For aftermarket underlayment and flashing components, we use Owens Corning’s recommended accessory line when it matters, but we’ll tell you honestly when a GAF or Malarkey accessory is a quality equivalent that costs less.

Signs Your Owens Corning Roofing Is Failing

  • Granule loss in the gutters. If you’re cleaning your gutters in Los Angeles and finding coarse black or gray grit, your shingles are shedding their protective ceramic coating. In our heat, this accelerates once bare asphalt is exposed, and it means the shingles are entering the final third of their life.
  • Curling shingle edges. The combination of intense sun and cool coastal fog creates a repeating expansion-contraction cycle that eventually forces shingle corners upward. Curled edges catch wind, and the next Santa Ana event converts a visual problem into torn shingles.
  • Daylight or water stains in the attic. Get up there during daylight with the lights off. If you can see pinpoints of light through the roof deck, water can get in. Stains on rafters near chimneys, skylights, or plumbing vents are also telltale signs that flashing has failed before the shingles did.
  • Missing shingles after wind. Owens Corning shingles have a strong nail strip, but older installations in Los Angeles sometimes used staples or too few nails. Once the sealant strip gives out, a 60 mph gust peels shingles off in whole sheets.
  • Visible cracks in shingles on the south-facing slope. That’s the slope that takes direct sun all afternoon. UV exposure breaks down the asphalt over time, and cracks typically start there before any other section of the roof. If the south slope is aging, the rest of the roof is not far behind.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled laundry and mudroom with a bench, cubbies and painted cabinets

For Los Angeles homeowners, Owens Corning roof work falls into clear ranges. Repairs, like replacing a few damaged shingles, resealing flashing, or patching an underside vent leak, typically run $470 to $2,125 depending on how much custom flashing work the repair demands and whether materials need to be sourced by color match. A full replacement in Los Angeles, which includes tear-off, disposal, new underlayment, new flashing, and Owens Corning shingles, generally runs $9,440 to $23,600. The spread comes down to roof size, pitch, story count, and whether the home is in a historical district with additional material requirements.

Every project starts with a written price before any work begins. That price includes the named Owens Corning product, all flashing and underlayment, labor, and the disposal haul-away. We don’t start work and then add change orders for things that should have been caught in the walkthrough. Our crews protect the home: drop cloths on the floors inside, plywood and tarps over plantings, shoe covers at the door if anyone comes inside, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, so if something isn’t right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can do safely: check your gutters for granules, look for ceiling stains inside, and look for missing shingles from the ground with binoculars. You can also look at the south slope for obvious cracking. But we draw a hard line at ladder work. Walking a pitched roof without proper fall protection, or getting on two-story roofs near skylights, is how homeowners get seriously injured. Roofing is not a safe DIY activity, and the insurance risk isn’t worth it. If you’ve spotted a problem, call (949) 850-9896. We’ll come out, document what we find, and give you a written scope before anything gets scheduled. As Graham Stein puts it: “The written scope is the promise, if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet.”
