PGT Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install PGT-compatible window and door parts across Los Angeles, with most replacements running $180 to $640 for hardware and glass components, and full window or door replacements ranging from $5,310 to $29,500 depending on size and series. Most owners discover a failed part the way you probably did: a window that suddenly won’t lock, a slider that grinds mid-track, or a door that lets in more street noise than it did last spring. The good news is that PGT parts are identifiable, the failures follow predictable patterns, and a correct repair is usually finished the same day.

We’re an independent service provider, not a PGT affiliate or dealer. What that means for you is that we match parts to your specific series and glass package without pushing a full replacement when a roller, lock set, or weatherstrip is all the window actually needs.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds windows and doors under several series names, and parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The most common lines we see in Los Angeles homes are WinGuard (impact-rated), SpectraGuard, Eze-Breeze, and the ClassicVue and EnergyVue lines. Each series uses slightly different roller profiles, lock geometry, and weatherstrip channels.

The fastest way to identify your window is the small silver or white label on the frame or sash edge. It lists the series, the glass package, and a manufacturing code. If the label has faded, measure the visible glass width and the sash thickness, and check the corner of the frame for a stamped series mark. One compatibility gotcha: WinGuard impact sashes are thicker than non-impact sashes in the same nominal size, so a roller assembly from a Standard series window will not seat correctly in a WinGuard sash. We stock OEM rollers and lock sets for current production, and for discontinued series we use a quality aftermarket equivalent that matches the original track profile, so you don’t have to replace a good window over a $40 part.

KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops are unrelated to window parts, but we mention them because many homeowners ask whether we handle those brands too – and we do, on the remodeling side of Elmstead Remodeling.

Signs Your PGT Window or Door Is Failing

  • Sliding door or window takes real effort to move. The rollers have flat-spotted or the track has picked up grit. In Los Angeles, fine dust from dry hillsides works into the track channels faster than coastal cities see, and it wears nylon rollers down to the metal hub.
  • Lock or latch won’t throw fully. This is usually the keeper or lock body drifting out of alignment after years of thermal movement, or a worn lock cam. On PGT impact doors we see the multi-point lock gear strip before the handle itself fails.
  • Condensation or haze between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. PGT’s standard sealed units carry a limited warranty, but the practical lifespan of a dual-pane unit in Los Angeles sun is often 10 to 15 years before the seal begins to let go.
  • Air or street noise around the sash perimeter. The weatherstrip has compressed or torn. PGT uses a fin-seal and bulb combination that flattens over time, especially on the sun-facing west and south elevations of Los Angeles homes.
  • Door sags or scrapes the threshold on the latch side. The hinge screws have pulled loose from the jamb, or the bottom expander has lost its adjustment. On heavy PGT impact doors this is common, and shimming the hinges alone usually doesn’t correct it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

For PGT parts in Los Angeles, we quote line-item prices before any work begins. A single roller assembly replacement runs $180 to $340 installed. A lock set or multi-point hardware swap is typically $220 to $410. Replacing a failed insulated glass unit runs $350 to $820 depending on glass package and size. A full window replacement, common when the frame itself has warped or the homeowner wants a different glass option, ranges from $5,310 to $17,700. A full PGT door replacement runs $9,440 to $29,500 when impact-rated framing is required.

What’s included in every parts visit: the trip charge, the specific part, installation labor, adjustment of the sash or door so it operates cleanly, and removal of the old part. We hand you a written scope before the crew starts, and the price on that paper is the price you pay. The written scope is the promise: if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every PGT parts repair we complete, so if a roller binds or a lock sticks within a year, we’re back to make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things worth checking yourself. Confirm the track is clean, gently vacuum the sill channel, and tighten any visible screws on the lock keeper. Those are safe, quick, and cost nothing. Beyond that, we’d recommend you stop. PGT impact windows and doors are heavy. A WinGuard sash can weigh 60 pounds or more, and when a homeowner removes the sash to inspect a roller, the common failure we see is a dropped sash that chips the corner or bends the roller housing. On multi-point door hardware, the gear timing matters; if the gear rack slips during reassembly, the door will not lock at all, and that’s a security issue, not a cosmetic one.

If you’ve done the basic checks and the window still fights you, call us at (949) 850-9896 and we’ll match the part, bring it to your home, and complete the repair with the same care we bring to our full remodel projects – drop cloths where we’re working, shoe covers at the door, and a photo of the finished area before we leave.
