Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you’re dealing with a cracked, sinking, or crumbling Quikrete driveway or paver surface in Los Angeles, we can source the right Quikrete-compatible repair materials and handle the install. Typical installed repair and replacement work for Quikrete driveway and paver surfaces in Los Angeles runs from $8260 to $21240 depending on square footage, base condition, and whether we’re doing spot repair or a full tear-out and re-pour. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a corner cracks after a heavy rain, a paver starts rocking underfoot, or the surface begins powdering off in the heat, and suddenly the driveway that looked fine last spring is the first thing you notice every time you pull in.
We’re an independent Los Angeles remodeling and exterior contractor. We’re not affiliated with Quikrete, and we don’t pretend to be. What we do is stock the Quikrete products homeowners actually need, match them to the specific job, and install them so the repair outlasts the original failure. Graham Stein, our owner, has been working on Los Angeles homes for going on two decades, and he’ll tell you flat out: most Quikrete driveway failures in L.A. aren’t the product’s fault. They’re base-prep failures or drainage failures wearing a concrete costume.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete makes three product lines that show up on Los Angeles driveways and paver installations. The first is their concrete mixes: standard 5000 PSI concrete mix, crack-resistant concrete mix, and the fast-setting mixes. The second is their paver base and jointing sand line, including their polymeric sand varieties. The third is their resurfacer and repair line: Quikrete Re-Cap Concrete Resurfacer, Quikrete Concrete Patching Compound, and Quikrete Bonding Adhesive.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Los Angeles homeowners run into: not every Quikrete product is right for every surface. The fast-setting mixes are excellent for fence posts and small repairs, but they’re a poor choice for a full Los Angeles driveway pour because they set too quickly to get a proper finish in our heat. The 5000 PSI mix is the right call for a driveway that will hold cars, trucks, and the occasional delivery van. The resurfacer products work well on a slab that’s structurally sound but cosmetically deteriorated – they will not fix a driveway with base failure underneath. And Quikrete’s polymeric sand works beautifully in Los Angeles paver joints, but it needs bone-dry conditions during install and a full 24 hours without rain to cure. In a city where June gloom can roll in without warning, that timing matters.
For identifying what you’ve got: the bag print tells you the product number and PSI rating. We’ll match it. If your driveway is older, we’ll often find the original product has been discontinued, and we’ll spec the current equivalent and explain the difference in writing before any work starts.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
You’ll usually see it before you feel it. Here’s what we find most often in Los Angeles:
- Hairline cracks spreading from the edges. Los Angeles drives see extreme temperature swings between hot days and cool nights. Concrete expands and contracts. If the original pour lacked proper control joints, the slab relieves stress wherever it can, usually the edges first.
- Powdering or flaking on the surface. This is spalling, and in Los Angeles it’s often compounded by years of hard water from sprinkler overspray working into the top layer. Quikrete’s resurfacer can address this, but only if the slab underneath is sound.
- Rocking pavers or sand washing out of the joints. This almost always points to inadequate base compaction or poor edge restraint. In Los Angeles, the freeze-thaw cycle isn’t the culprit – it’s our clay-heavy soil shifting as it wets and dries between seasons.
- Water pooling in low spots after rain. If your Quikrete driveway holds puddles for more than a day after rain, the slab has settled. In neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Echo Park, and the hillside areas around Los Feliz, soil movement under slabs is common. The concrete isn’t failing – the ground beneath it moved.
- Crumbling along the driveway apron where it meets the street. This is the spot that takes the most lateral stress as cars turn in and out. In Los Angeles, city tree roots push up against the underside of these aprons constantly. The Quikrete mix was probably fine; the base has been slowly compromised from below.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Quikrete-concrete driveway replacement in Los Angeles, budget between $5310 and $14160. For paver driveway installation, the range is $8260 to $21240. The spread comes from square footage, access for equipment, whether we’re hauling away the old surface, and what the base soil looks like once we open it up.
Here’s how we work so the price doesn’t move on you. The written price is given before any work starts, every time. It covers demolition and haul-away, base prep, the Quikrete materials, finishing, clean-up, and a photo of the finished clean-up before the crew leaves. If we open up the base and find something unexpected – a collapsing old drain line, a buried tree stump – we stop, we show you, and we rewrite the scope on paper before proceeding. The written scope is the promise – if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet. Every driveway and paver job is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely do. You can sweep the surface clean, pull weeds from paver joints, and check your downspouts and sprinkler heads to make sure water isn’t dumping directly onto the slab edge. You can apply a concrete sealer to a sound driveway in good weather. Those are legitimate weekend projects.
What you should not do is attempt a structural repair on a Los Angeles driveway that has base failure underneath it. Pouring new Quikrete patch compound on top of a slab that’s actively moving is throwing money at a symptom. Same with polymeric sand: get the joint moisture wrong, and it turns into a gummy mess that locks in uneven pavers. Concrete is heavy, and digging out a failed base in Los Angeles’s compacted clay is punishing work. If the problem looks structural, call us at (949) 850-9896 before you start. We’ll come look, tell you honestly whether it’s a DIY-level fix or a real job, and give you a written price for whatever we recommend. No pressure, no obligation.
FAQs

A properly installed Quikrete 5000 PSI driveway in Los Angeles should last 25 to 35 years with basic care, which mostly means keeping water draining away from the edges and resealing every few years. Failures before the 10-year mark are almost always drainage or base issues, not the concrete itself.
Yes, in many cases. If the slab is sound and the damage is surface-level spalling or small cracks, Quikrete resurfacer and patching products can buy you 5 to 10 more years. If the slab has settled or shifted, repair won’t hold, and we’ll tell you that before we take the work. Call (949) 850-9896 and we’ll assess what you actually need.
Most paver driveway installations in Los Angeles take 3 to 5 working days from demolition through final jointing sand. Weather can stretch that, and so can access issues on hillside lots. You’ll have a written timeline before we start, and we stick to it.
We keep the most common Quikrete concrete mixes, patching compounds, and polymeric sand on our trucks for Los Angeles-area jobs. Special-order products for specific applications typically arrive within 2 to 3 business days. We’ll confirm availability before we schedule, so you’re never waiting on a truck that doesn’t have the right material for your job.
If your Quikrete driveway or pavers are showing their age and you want a straight answer on what it costs to make it right, call us at (949) 850-9896. We’ll schedule a free estimate, look at the site, and hand you a written price before any work starts. We also carry parts and materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone installations if your project extends beyond the driveway.
