Sterling Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Sterling kitchen sink, faucet, or fixture that’s leaking, scratched, or simply failing after years of daily use, we can help. Elmstead Remodeling installs and replaces Sterling kitchen components throughout Los Angeles, with most kitchen fixture replacements running between $16,520 and $53,100 when bundled into a broader kitchen remodel, or far less when we’re swapping a single fixture during a service call. The typical owner discovers a problem the same way: a drip that won’t stop, a finish that’s worn through to the base metal, or a mounting that’s loosened enough that the sink shifts when you lean on it.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Sterling dealer or affiliate. That matters because we recommend the part that’s right for your kitchen and your budget, not the part a manufacturer wants us to push. If you’re in Los Angeles and your Sterling fixture is past its useful life, we’ll get you a written price before any work starts, and we’ll leave your kitchen cleaner than we found it.
What Sterling Kitchen Components We Replace

Sterling, a Kohler company, builds kitchen sinks, faucets, and fixtures that get sold through big-box retailers and plumbing supply houses across Los Angeles. Over the years, we’ve worked on hundreds of them. The parts we most often replace or install:
- Stainless steel undermount and drop-in sinks – Sterling’s most common kitchen line. We see failures at the basin seams, the drain flange, and the mounting clips underneath.
- Composite granite sinks – Sterling’s Stratus and related models. These hold up well but can crack at the corners if a heavy pot drops, and the finish can dull faster in hard Los Angeles water.
- Single-handle pull-down faucets – The cartridge wears out, the spray head gets clogged with mineral deposits, or the hose develops a kink that won’t straighten.
- Two-handle bridge faucets – Mostly older Sterling models. Washers and O-rings are cheap, but if the brass body is scored, replacement is cheaper than repair.
- Mounting hardware and strainers – The small parts that get ignored until water starts pooling on the counter.
Sterling parts are broadly compatible across sink and faucet lines, but the gotcha comes with the drain assembly. Sterling sinks use a standard 3.5-inch drain opening, so aftermarket strainers fit, but the included Sterling strainer basket has a slightly different thread pitch. If you buy a universal strainer at a hardware store, it may thread in but leak at the gasket. We stock Sterling-spec strainers and gaskets to avoid that exact problem.
For reference, Elmstead Remodeling also installs kitchen materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone alongside Sterling fixtures, so if your sink replacement turns into cabinet or countertop work, we keep the whole project under one roof and one written price.

Signs Your Sterling Kitchen Fixture Is Failing
- A drip from the spout that stops only when you jiggle the handle. That’s a worn cartridge or valve seat. On Sterling single-handle faucets, the cartridge is a replaceable ceramic-disc unit that typically wears out after 8 to 12 years of daily use.
- Water pooling at the base of the faucet or around the sink rim. The O-ring under the faucet body or the plumber’s putty under the sink flange has dried and cracked. Los Angeles hard water accelerates this because mineral scale chews at the seal.
- The spray head won’t retract or drips when docked. The weight on the pull-down hose has slid or the internal check valve has failed. This is fixable, but if the hose itself is frayed, replacement is the safer call.
- The sink flexes or shifts when you press on it. Undermount clips have loosened and the adhesive bead under the rim has failed. Left alone, this allows water under the counter and into the cabinet box.
- Finish staining that won’t scrub off. On composite sinks, aggressive cleaners and hard water mineral buildup can etch the surface. Once the finish is porous, it stains faster each month.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, a full kitchen remodel that includes Sterling fixture replacement, cabinet work, countertops, and backsplash runs from $16,520 to $53,100 depending on kitchen size, material choices, and whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical. If you’re only replacing a Sterling sink or faucet, the job is far smaller and gets priced as a fixed written quote, not a range.
Every quote includes the parts, labor, the written line-item price before any work starts, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the fixture isn’t installed right, we come back and make it right. That promise is stamped on every project we do in Los Angeles, and it’s one of the reasons families with kids and pets keep calling us back.
You’ll also get the Cedarwell Care Promise on every visit: shoe covers at the door, drop cloths on the floors, quiet tools during rest hours where possible, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. No add-on charges for any of it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling. Look under the sink for water tracks. Wiggle the faucet base gently. Check if the shutoff valves under the sink still turn freely. Those are useful observations and they help us quote accurately over the phone.
What we don’t recommend is pulling the sink or faucet yourself. The plumbing under a Los Angeles kitchen sink is often original to the house, which means galvanized supply lines, seized angle stops, and strainer nuts that have been on for decades. A small slip turns a faucet swap into a flood inside the cabinet. Spray head replacements and handle cartridge swaps are manageable for some owners, but anything under the counter is worth a professional. Call (949) 850-9896 and we’ll walk you through what we’re seeing.
FAQs

Most Sterling faucets last 10 to 15 years in Los Angeles, with the cartridge usually the first component to fail around year 8. Hard water shortens that lifespan because mineral scale abrades the internal seals. If your faucet is over a decade old and showing multiple symptoms, replacement is often more cost-effective than repairing it piece by piece. Call (949) 850-9896 for a fixed quote and we’ll give you the number before any work starts.
It depends on the failure. Loose undermount clips and failed drain gaskets are repairable. Cracks in composite material or rust-through on stainless steel are not. We’ll tell you honestly which one you’re looking at, and if repair doesn’t make sense, we’ll show you why before you spend a dollar. Call (949) 850-9896 and we’ll help you figure out which path is cheaper over five years, not just today.
A straightforward faucet or sink swap on a standard Los Angeles kitchen takes half a day to a full day, including shutting down water, removing the old fixture, installing the new one, testing for leaks, and cleaning up. We give you a written timeline with the written price, and we hold to both. Call (949) 850-9896 to schedule your free estimate.
We keep common Sterling cartridges, O-rings, strainers, and mounting hardware on our trucks because Los Angeles traffic makes “we’ll be back tomorrow with a part” a much worse answer than it sounds. For full sink replacements, we source from local supply houses with same-day or next-day availability in most cases. If we don’t have your part, we’ll tell you when we can get it, in writing, before you commit. Call (949) 850-9896 to check what we have for your model.
