Tamko Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you have a Tamko driveway or paver surface that is cracking, shifting, or showing base failure, the most common fix in Los Angeles is selective replacement of the failed sections, not a full tear-out. We install Tamko-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Los Angeles, with paver driveway work typically running $8,260 – $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and access. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a paver that sits lower than its neighbors after rain, a hairline crack that widens over a single summer, or a low spot that holds water for days after everything else has dried.
We are an independent Los Angeles contractor, not a Tamko dealer or affiliate. What that means for you is we match the right Tamko-series paver or replacement section to your existing layout without pushing a full redo when a surgical fix will hold. Graham Stein has been working on Los Angeles homes for going on two decades, and the driveway and paver calls we get are rarely about the product failing on its own. They are almost always about what is underneath it.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s paver and hardscape line lives under their Building Products division, and the compatibility question comes down to two things: the paver profile and the color lot. Tamko pavers are manufactured in specific dimensional profiles, typically 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for vehicular applications, and matching a replacement paver to an existing installation means matching both the profile and the surface texture, not just the color name. A 60mm paver installed where an 80mm paver was originally laid will sit low and create a trip edge within the first year.
The color-lot issue is the one that catches Los Angeles owners off guard. Tamko color blends like their charcoal and sandalwood tones shift slightly between manufacturing runs. If your original installation is more than five years old, an off-the-shelf replacement in the same nominal color will often read as a visible patch. The fix is to pull a sample from an inconspicuous area, like under a planter or at the back edge of a side yard, and match against current stock. We do this on every Tamko paver repair we quote, because the written scope is the promise – if it is not on the paper, we have not agreed to it yet.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Tamko pavers are concrete units, so a quality aftermarket paver from a US manufacturer with the same dimensional profile and a close color match will perform equivalently in Los Angeles conditions. What we do not recommend is mixing a cheap import paver with a color-blend Tamko installation. The surface wear rate differs enough that the patch becomes more obvious each year, not less.

Signs Your Tamko Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- A single paver or a small cluster sits lower than the surrounding surface. This is base settlement, not a bad paver. Water has worked its way under the bedding layer, or the base was never compacted to spec. In Los Angeles, the freeze-thaw cycle does not cause this, which means the culprit is almost always drainage or the original base prep.
- Hairline cracks running across multiple pavers in a line. A crack that jumps from paver to paver in a straight or gently curving line signals movement in the base below, often from tree roots or a failed edge restraint. Individual cracked pavers are a different story; a line of cracks is a structural symptom.
- Joint sand is washing out after every rain. Los Angeles gets its rain in short, intense bursts. If the sand between your pavers disappears after each storm, the edge restraint has failed somewhere along the perimeter, or the paver surface does not have enough slope to shed water.
- The driveway edge is spreading or the border pavers are tilting outward. This is what happens when a vehicle drives on the outer edge and there is no proper edge restraint holding the field in place. It starts slow, then the outer row loosens all at once.
- Water pools in the same spot for more than 48 hours after rain. A properly sloped paver driveway in Los Angeles should shed water within a day. Standing water that lingers means the surface has settled or heaved enough to reverse the slope, and that water is now working on the base every single time it rains.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full paver driveway installation in Los Angeles, our pricing runs from $8,260 to $21,240. Partial paver repairs and selective section replacement fall below that range depending on square footage, but every project gets a written price before any work starts, so there is no version of this where the number grows after the crew arrives.
What moves the cost within that range is the condition of the existing base. If the base is intact and we are replacing pavers and re-sanding joints, the job is faster and the price lands low. If the base has failed and we are excavating, re-compacting to Los Angeles soil conditions, and rebuilding the bedding layer, that is the higher end. Every quote includes the pavers or Tamko-compatible replacement units, bedding sand, joint sand, edge restraint repair, and haul-away of the removed material. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an owner can safely check before calling anyone. First, walk the perimeter and look at the edge restraint, whether it is plastic, aluminum, or concrete. If it has pulled away or cracked, that is your problem, and it is not a weekend fix. Second, check the slope with nothing more than a garden hose: run water across the surface and watch where it goes. If it pools instead of running off, the base has moved.
What is not safe to DIY is lifting and re-setting pavers on a driveway that carries vehicle weight. Re-laying pavers without re-compacting the base underneath means the same failure returns in a year, and now you have paid twice: once for the materials, once for the professional repair you needed in the first place. Lifting a full section of a vehicular driveway without a plate compactor and the right bedding depth is the most common way we see a $600 repair become a $12,000 replacement. If you are not sure what you are looking at, call us at (949) 850-9896 and describe what you see. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth a service call.
FAQs

Tamko pavers themselves are concrete units that will last 30 to 50 years in Los Angeles if the base underneath was compacted correctly and the joint sand is maintained. What fails first is almost never the paver; it is the base, the edge restraint, or the drainage. Our repairs focus on what is underneath, because fixing the surface without fixing the base is a temporary patch.
A single cracked paver can be replaced, but it cannot be meaningfully repaired. Concrete pavers do not take a patch that will hold up to vehicle traffic and Los Angeles sun. The right fix is to remove the cracked unit, inspect the bedding underneath to see why it cracked, and set a matched replacement. Call (949) 850-9896 and we will tell you whether we need to see it in person.
For a typical section replacement of 100 to 300 square feet, the work takes one to two days: day one for removal, base re-compaction, and re-setting; day two for joint sand, compaction, and the final clean-up. We take a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, so you can see exactly what was left behind.
We do not warehouse Tamko pavers, because the color-lot matching is too important to leave to a shelf. We pull a sample from your existing installation, match it to current stock, and order what the job needs. Our parts and material partners include brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior work, but for Tamko paver matching we source directly from current manufacturing runs so the color blends correctly.
If your Tamko driveway or paver surface in Los Angeles is cracking, spreading, or holding water, call (949) 850-9896 for a free estimate. We will give you a written price before any work starts, and the crew that shows up will be the one that knows how to leave your house cleaner than they found it.
